Door Off-Track Repair

Broken Garage Door Rollers

When your garage door rollers come off the tracks, then you have a couple of choices. Either you can do the repairs yourself, or you can trust a professional to do it. In either case, you should understand the basics of how the repair is done so that even if you do call in a professional, you will know what it is they are about to do and be able to supervise the process if you wish. It is definitely recommended that you call in a professional for any garage door repair, simply because working on a garage door can be relatively dangerous. People that don’t know what they are doing or have no experience repairing or replacing garage doors have suffered serious injury or death trying to do the work themselves. We’ve been in business since 2015 and have decades of experience working on garage doors. We are located in Worcester, Massachusetts and serve Worcester and the surrounding area.

Let’s start with understanding why a garage door might jump off the tracks. There can be many reasons for this. Most often this is because of some sort of impact. For example, if you opened your garage door too late and tried to enter the garage or back out you may have to clip the garage door which tore it off of its tracks. In some cases, an earthquake might shake a garage door off of its tracks although this is pretty rare. In many cases, there is an actual problem with your garage store such as a loose track that can cause them to separate from the rollers, and those problems need to be addressed or else the rollers will jump the track again and again.

Fortunately, this is one of those repairs that can be done on your own if you have some experience working with tools and understand how your garage door operates. That’s because you don’t have to deal with the springs which is the most dangerous part of your garage door.

Simply detach the door from the automatic opener and open the door partially manually. Line up one of the detached rollers with the spot on the track. Use vise grips on the track under the door to keep it open while you work. Use a pair of pliers to pry open one side of the track so that you can slide the roller back in. Repeat this for all the rollers that of come off the tracks. Close the opening in the track by hammering the bent track and to the shape it was when you pride it open. Tested a few times to make sure that it is not bumpy and that you have gotten the rollers back on where they should be. Garage door operation should be smooth, and if it is not, then you’re going to have to use your hammer and pliers to rework the track so that it does not rub up against the rollers.

If you do not feel comfortable doing this yourself, then definitely give us a call because we can fix this simple problem for a lot less than you think.
